VGCC holds College Day for transferring students
Vance-Granville Community College hosted admissions officers from four-year colleges and universities on Nov. 20 in the student lounge on VGCC’s Main Campus. The event was VGCC’s annual College Day, where students obtain important information about transfer requirements, financial aid and scholarships that can help them continue their education. LOUISBURG, N.C.—Louisburg College is pleased to announce the appointment of Vicki Reid to the role of Campus Police Chief as of November 1, 2013. VGCC celebrates local Native American heritage
Vance-Granville Community College held a “Native American Appreciation Day” in the Civic Center on the college’s Main Campus on Nov. 18, during the national celebration of Native American Heritage Month. Students from the Cosmetology programs on the college’s Main Campus, South Campus and Franklin County Campus helped to organize the event, which was supported by the VGCC Student Government Association. VGCC Ambassadors pack boxes for Operation Christmas Child

VGCC Criminal Justice Students complete service projects
Criminal Justice Technology students at Vance-Granville Community College recently completed a pair of service projects, as they prepare for careers that involve giving back to their communities. First, the Criminal Justice Club continued its longstanding tradition of picking up trash along the whole length of the club’s adopted street, Poplar Creek Road, near the college’s Main Campus on Interstate 85 in Vance County. Vance-Granville Community College has announced that seven students earned Dean’s List honors for the summer semester that ended in August. Results for state end-of-grade and end-of-course tests for the 2012-2013 school year for students in Vance County Schools have been released Thursday. The results were delayed to this point in the current school year, because of the implementation of North Carolina’s new READY Accountability model during the 2012-2013 school year. North Carolina Public Schools Post Strong Academic Growth; Higher Standards Mean Fewer Students Marked Proficient
More than 71 percent of North Carolina public schools met or exceeded academic growth expectations in the 2012-13 school year, according to the first READY Accountability report today presented to the State Board of Education. In addition, test scores dropped as expected in the first year of more rigorous standards. Results were provided for the end-of-grade and end-of-course tests as well as the complete accountability model measures. The North Carolina Association of Black High School Alumni recently presented a gift to the Vance-Granville Community College Endowment Fund to assist students with their GED (General Educational Development) testing fees. The intended beneficiaries are students in the Adult Basic Skills program at VGCC’s Franklin County Campus.
