Growers and Gardeners Urged to Submit Soil Sample Information Online
RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is reminding growers and gardeners to get a head start on their planting projects by submitting soil samples now. There is no fee currently, and reports are available in one to two weeks. NCDOT Awards $2.7 Million Contract to Improve 15 Miles of Granville County Roads
RALEIGH — A contract awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation will mean improvements for 15 miles over seven Granville County roads. The $2.7 million contract was awarded to Carolina Sunrock, LLC of Raleigh to resurface roads in the southern part of the county. Fermon Bostick, who has been driving a school bus for Vance County Schools since 1995, won the Vance County Schools’ Bus ROADeo competition for this year and represented the school system in district competition in Nash County. 158 NC Schools to Receive Fresh Produce in 2014-15
Students at 158 elementary schools throughout North Carolina will enjoy more fresh fruits and vegetables during the 2014-2015 school year thanks to a $4 million grant from the USDA Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program (FFVP). VGCC Students conduct successful food drive for kids
The Office Administration Club at Vance-Granville Community College recently conducted a community service project to help local schoolchildren in need. Students participated in the nationwide “BackPack Buddies” movement, which seeks to provide children in low-income households with food for the weekend during the school year. In April and May, the club collected non-perishable food items donated by VGCC students, faculty and staff, along with contributions from Moss Foods of Louisburg. Hurricane season predicted to be normal, below normal
The Atlantic hurricane season started June 1, and the season’s outlook issued by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts a near-normal or below normal tropical activity. According to the forecast, there is a 70-percent likelihood of 8 to 13 named storms, of which 3 to 6 could become hurricanes and the potential of 1 to 2 of those becoming a major hurricane.
