The North Carolina Association of Black High School Alumni recently presented a gift to the Vance-Granville Community College Endowment Fund to assist students with their GED (General Educational Development) testing fees. George A. Henderson was recently named Dean of Students at Vance-Granville Community College. Henderson, a resident of Wake Forest, has worked in various capacities for the college since 1998 and most recently served as dean of VGCC’s Warren County Campus. $4.7 Million Grant Will Support Professional Development for North Carolina Principals
Strong professional development for principals has received a big boost in the northeastern part of the state thanks to a grant awarded to North Carolina State University. VGCC names Blaine to direct Occupational Extension training
Vance-Granville Community College recently named Jean A. Blaine of Durham as the college’s new Director of Occupational Extension. Blaine has been a member of the VGCC staff since 2007 and most recently served as Director of Prison Programs. In her new role, Blaine supervises the coordinators for Occupational Healthcare and Prison Programs. Livestock producers should be on the lookout for cattle disease
RALEIGH – Two cattle herds in North Carolina have been confirmed positive recently for anaplasmosis at the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Rollins Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory. Anaplasmosis is an infectious disease that causes red blood cells to be removed from circulation, resulting in fever, severe anemia  and even death. Cows from both herds have died. Troxler announces availability of farmland preservation grants; application deadline is Dec. 16
RALEIGH – County governments and nonprofit groups pursuing farmland preservation projects have until Dec. 16 to apply for funding assistance from the N.C. Agricultural Development and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund. About $1.7 million is available through monies appropriated for the 2014-15 budget year by the General Assembly. “We have 86 county voluntary agricultural districts across the state and 50 county-wide farmland protection programs. Quinton Talley Charged with First Degree Kidnapping
On October 29, 2013 members of the Henderson Police Department Criminal Investigations Division with the assistance of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged Quinton Talley, 26, of 142 Parrier Street, Henderson with first degree kidnapping. Mr. Talley was charged with a domestic violence protection order violation by the Vance County Sheriff’s Office.
