Gene Purvis of Franklinton recently retired as Dean of Student Development at Vance-Granville Community College, after a 32-year career in public education (including 22 years at the college). His VGCC colleagues held a retirement reception in his honor on August 29 at the college’s Main Campus. Purvis first joined VGCC as a vocational counselor in 1991, following 10 years of service as a teacher and counselor in the Granville County Schools system. City of Henderson Recruiting for Chief of Police
The City of Henderson has begun its recruitment process for the next Chief of Police. Ms. Becky Veazey, President of the MAPS Group via the NC League of Municipalities, is serving as consultant and facilitator of the process. A class being offered for the first time at Vance-Granville Community College will teach area residents how to take their cakes to another level. “Cake Decorating: Fondant” is scheduled for Tuesday evenings from 6 until 8 p.m., Sept. 10 through Oct. 15.
