Attached are the proposed Vance County redistricting maps. These maps have not yet been approved by the commissioners, and are a proposal of the new lines. Earthquake Felt In Henderson, NC
At about 1:51pm a short earthquake was felt in Henderson. It was felt in Kittrell, Warrenton and in Raleigh as well. Reports are all over the east cost, including Washington DC and NYC and as far down as South Carolina. An estimated 5.8 on the Richter scale earthquake with an epicenter near Mineral, Va.

Gov. Bev Perdue announced Friday that five North Carolina towns have been selected to participate in the N.C. Small Town Main Street Program, an initiative for small and rural towns that focuses on creating new jobs and investment by helping revitalize downtown areas. North Carolina’s unemployment rate increased to 10.1 percent in July
While the private sector gained 6,900 jobs, state government jobs decreased by 300 and local government jobs decreased by 11,800. Wake County ranked among top areas for job growth in U.S.
North Carolina strong in job growth, green energy and biotechnology. CNN Money recently listed the top 25 counties in the U.S. for job growth based on job growth data from 2000-2010. Ranked 15th on the list was Wake County. NC ACT Scores Remain Above the National Average in 2011
North Carolina students maintained a 21.9 average ACT score in 2011, marking the fourth year that the state’s average ACT score was higher than the nation’s, according to the 2011 ACT results released today. New Bill Will Slash Small Business Programs
Senate Republicans have introduced a bill that could eliminate all federal programs to assist small businesses, as well as women-owned, veteran-owned and minority-owned firms. According to a report released Tuesday entitled “The Economic Impact Of Travel On North Carolina Counties, Vance County was one out of 98 other North Carolina counties that increased visitor spending from 2009 to 2010. The two falling counties were Northampton and Columbus. The report specifically cited the following details: Domestic tourism in Vance County generated an economic impact of $38.74 million in 2010. On August 11, 2011 members of the Henderson Police Department Major Crimes Unit arrested and charged Tyrelle Octavious Benson, 17, of 7969 NC 39 North, Henderson, NC with robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony probation violation. Mr. Benson was given a $60,000 secured bond pending a court hearing on August 29, 2011. On August 5, 2011 around 12:04 AM officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to the park on David Street, Henderson in reference to a drug complaint.
