Decision Day at Southern Vance High
The “Decision Day” celebration at Southern Vance High School featured 70 members of the Class of 2016 announcing their plans to attend college in the fall. Reading Fair Winners at Carver Elementary
Carver Elementary School hosted its annual Reading Fair on Thursday, May 5, with nine students in grades 3-5 earning awards for their projects. The Reading Fair involves each student in grades 3-5 doing a project on a book they have read. The project includes making a “book report” with illustrations and written responses explaining the book’s story on a large project board. VGCC awarded grant to bring teachers and manufacturers together
The State Board of Community Colleges has awarded a $10,000 grant to Vance-Granville Community College to support a project that will bring together educators and employers. VGCC and 11 other community colleges received a competitive grant as part of a statewide “Taste of Industry” initiative. VGCC’s grant was the largest awarded by the State Board. The 175th anniversary of the founding of the City of Henderson seems like an ideal time to launch a new slogan and logo for downtown Henderson. The Board of Directors of the Henderson Vance Downtown Development Commission has approved using a rose or roses in the logo and slogan. VGCC Carpentry program and Granville County Habitat partner to finish house
Students in the Carpentry program at Vance-Granville Community College recently started work on their second project in partnership with Granville County Habitat for Humanity. The first construction project was a home in Oxford that students helped build from start to finish, leading to its dedication in January. This time, students will be completing a home in Henderson. Parents, educators and others are invited to provide feedback regarding proposed revisions to the content standards for high school math courses Math I, II and III via a survey available at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HSMathDraftStandards The survey will be available through May 20.
