Revised Home in Henderson received the following letter leveling a charge of libel against this Web site.
Thursday’s open line
I hope that S-CHIP (State Children’s Health Insurance Program) will cover eyeglasses (assuming the veto is overridden). I have too many students with broken glasses, ineffective glasses, or no glasses at all, and there are only so many who can sit at the front of the room! With that, we give you the open line.
Wednesday’s open line
We commend Henderson Police Chief Keith Sidwell’s efforts towards community policing such as his plan to put a bicycle patrol in place. What are your thoughts? Let us know on today’s open line.
To the editor: Work for a better Vance
My fellow citizens, now that the municipal election is over, we need to again look toward the future and work for a better Vance County and Henderson.
To the editor: “Right Direction” vs. “New Direction”
The good ole boys are out again, beating their drums and blowing their own horns, hoping to convince our good citizens to follow the “new direction” instead of the “right direction.”
An open invitation from Eddie Ellington
My fellow citizens, please join with me tonight at 8:00 p.m. at the City of Henderson Operations Center in support of Mrs. Lynn H. Harper.
To the citizens of Ward 2
An open letter by Robert G. (Bobby) Gupton Henderson City Council, Ward 2 Two years ago when I ran for the Henderson City Council, I promised to work hard and to be available to all citizens of our city. I have kept this promise and I intend to make you the same promise again.
Opinion: Abe & Little Tad talk Henderson politics
Editor’s Note: This column and the previous column by “Abe Lincoln” are anonymous columns submitted to Home in Henderson. We apologize for any confusion the lack of disclaimer may have caused. Little Tad Lincoln and I were discussing local politics the other day. I take particular interest in local politics as I’ve always believed local government is the grassroots ecosystem of America. And after all, we’ve had 150 years to observe local governments from on high.
Weekend open line
This from Julian Oliver, Past Commander of the American Legion Post 60 in Henderson:
Wednesday’s open line
Home in Henderson considers free speech to be among the most precious of our American freedoms. Of all the things we can talk about, the freedom to have open political discourse is certainly a cornerstone of our way of life.
To the editor: If this can save someone’s life…
In 1985, seven children including my youngest son Lyndon, 17, died at 633 Breckenridge Street.
Milestones: Maximum Housing Code
After a quietly advertised public hearing (in the men’s room of The Silo, behind the flush tank), The Shantini Housing Group, represented by Michelangelo Blacksatterini, Esq., introduced the following Ordinance which was seconded by Councilperson _______________________ as read: AN ORDINANCE FOR THE CREATION OF A MAXIMUM HOUSING CODE
Monday’s open line
Our analysis of the year’s Henderson election suggests that it is centered around competing philosophies rather than specific issues. With that in mind, we wonder if readers will expound on what those philosophies are and whether or not a synthesis can or should be reached.
To the editor: response to Mike Inscoe
Editor’s Note: This letter ran in The Daily Dispatch recently. Because the Dispatch has a 400 word limit on letters to the editor, the author, Henderson City Council member Lynn Harper, asked us to publish it in its pre-abridged state. We have granted her request. To the Editor: In 30+ years of subscribing to The Daily Dispatch, this is the first time I have felt the need to write a letter to the Editor.
To the editor: To the mothers of Henderson
Dear Mother, I am a mother and live in what was once a wonderful town in a wonderful neighborhood. You know I could be anywhere USA!
Opinion: Dawn of a new age?
My mother sent me an article from The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette yesterday, an article so startling in the possibilities it raises that it actually gave me gooseflesh.
Opinion: Yount responds to Satterwhite
I do not personally know all of Mr. Satterwhite’s clients but I do know Mike Satterwhite.
To the editor: “…In the traditions handed down…”
My dad floated over into Vance County on the prosperity boat of the 1950’s.
