We saw a lot of smiling parents and a similar number of despondent children during yesterday’s Vance County Schools’ Open House. There’s one day of summer break left, kids. Spend it reflecting on how you plan to succeed this year. Here’s your open line.

We could not help but notice that many comment posters are taking advantage of the “Anonymous” default name recently installed on Home in Henderson for comment posts. Although we are delighted that so many are enjoying the service, we feel obligated to point out that using a unique moniker will not make you any more identifiable in terms of Internet tracking or more traditional forms of sleuthing. There was this motto that hung in my father’s office for years. It went something like this: “We, the unappreciated, led by the unknowing, doing the impossible for the ungrateful, have done so much with so little for so long it’s widely assumed that we can do anything with nothing.” And he worked in the private sector.
