The Henderson-Vance County Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, and the Volunteer Center are collaborating for a Back to School Supplies Drive scheduled for Friday, August 10.
Blood drive at Maria Parham Medical Center Friday
There will be a Red Cross Blood Drive at the Maria Parham Medical Center on Friday, August 3, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Remember that supplies of blood are lowest during the summer months and all blood types are needed. For more information, contact LeeAnne Peoples at 252.436.1116.

Don’t forget the meeting of the Henderson City Council’s Community Development Committee today at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. I have not been neglecting the blog. I’ve been getting the sister site ready for its debut, hopefully tomorrow morning. The new site will be a registration-required site where all posts will carry the name of their writers. We trust that it will answer the criticism of those who do not care for anonymous comment posts.
NCDPI receives $6 million grant
The NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) has received a $6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences to create the NC Common Education Data Analysis and Reporting System (NC CEDARS), a longitudinal data system.
50 year teaching veterans to be honored
The State Board of Education on August 1 will recognize seven teachers who have served as teachers for 50 years. These teachers will be honored at the Board’s August meeting held in the Education Building, 301 N. Wilmington St., Raleigh.
