The Community Development Committee, chaired by Henderson City Council member Garry Daeke, is scheduled to meet at 1:00 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room. Chip Bartlett of Holland Consultants will be present to update members on the progress of the historically slow-moving David Streed CDBG project and to discuss future plans. With that, the floor is yours. Go for it.

Monday’s open line
The Henderson City Council is scheduled to go on a ride-along today at 3:00 p.m. In addition to other areas of the City, they expect to survey Rowland Street and the emergency sewer needs in that area. In that vein, the FAIR Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. today at City Hall to discuss emergency fund appropriations to replace the sewer line in that area. What else does the City Council need to look at as they ride through Henderson? …
Weekend open line
The Daily Dispatch reports that the City’s Land Planning Development Committee is going to give it one more go with the County in a face-to-face to resolve the impasse over the Armory/Rose Avenue Library building issue. Oddly enough, I am currently teaching my 5th graders the term compromise: when one party gives something up to get something in return. Can the City and the County reach this state? The good news is that Henderson’s fund balance is improving. The bad news is that our tax collection rate is not up to snuff compared to other cities our size. What can be done? Throw in your taxable two cents on today’s open line.

The FAIR Committee is scheduled to meet at 5:00 p.m. today at City Hall. On the agenda is the audit report for fiscal year 2005-2006, a budget amendment for street resurfacing, emergency funding for the sewer line on Rowland Street, and a portable jet vac. With that, the open line is yours to do with as you will. Within reason.
Winter weather advisory
Vance County is currently under a Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service until 12:00 p.m. on January 18. Up to one-tenth of an inch of ice is expected to accumulate on elevated surfaces. Because of warm ground temperatures, travel conditions should not be affected.

The Public Works Committee is scheduled to meet at 9:00 a.m. at the City Operations Center. With the $700,000 for the Chavasse Avenue widening project, they should have something to talk about. With that, we give you the open line.
