Spanish fort discovered in Morganton
Before the Lost Colony at Roanoke Island, before the Jamestown settlement in Virginia, there was Fort San Juan in the North Carolina foothills. Archaeologists studying a ceremonial mound from a Native American town called Joara last month discovered the first inland fort built by Europeans in the New World, near present-day Morganton. NCDA&CS inspectors make sure consumers are getting their money’s worth at frozen yogurt shops
RALEIGH – Gummy bears or brownie bites, chocolate sauce or whipped cream, frozen yogurt shops allow customers to fill up a cup with frozen yogurt, top it as they please and then pay based on weight. Inspectors from the N.C. RDU gets new service to Salt Lake City, Philadelphia
Delta Air Lines is starting new service to Raleigh-Durham International Airport from Salt Lake City, effective Dec. 22. This marks the return of service between RDU and Utah’s capital; Delta previously offered the service from 2005-2009. The daily flight will be non-stop. In addition, Delta Air will also launch four daily non-stop flights to RDU from Philadelphia beginning Sept. 3.

The Vance-Granville Community College Board of Trustees held its regular bimonthly meeting on Monday, July 15 at the college’s Henderson campus. North Carolina Ninth District Court Judge Henry Banks swore in real estate broker Deborah F. Brown of Henderson for a second four-year term on the Board. Brown is also a member of the Vance County Board of Commissioners, and was appointed by that same board. Brown first joined the Board of Trustees in 2009 and will serve though 2017. …

Chris Brockman, an instructor of English and Reading at Vance-Granville Community College, has released a new book of poetry on the ups and downs of aging. VGCC offers Cosmetology during evening at South Campus
This fall, Vance-Granville Community College’s South Campus will offer Cosmetology courses during the evening, making it the only one of the college’s four campuses with such a schedule. In addition, the community colleges in Durham and Wake counties do not offer Cosmetology at night, either, making the program even more unique for the area, according to VGCC Cosmetology program head Tomeka Moss.
