Department of Public Instruction Results from Pre-K Implementation Studies

Submitted Article February 29, 2012 Education

The Department of Public Instruction Tuesday released the results of two studies that have found that pre-k programs implemented in public schools perform better than programs in private centers.  These analyses of the More at Four program, now NC-PreK, were conducted by the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute (FPG) at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2009 and 2011.  For more than a decade, FPG has acted as the external evaluator for state-funded pre-kindergarten in North Carolina. Given the current draft report …

Submitted Article February 28, 2012 Opinion

In the 40 years of living on Chavasse Ave. in the area of the historic Brodie Grove, we have had to go to the city time and time again to protect our residential neighborhood and each time the city re-thought and sided with the city residents who were invested in Henderson. Richard Brand: Acting Like A Christian

Submitted Article February 27, 2012 Opinion

It is another of the strange mysteries of this campaign. President Obama gets “hammered” on this lack of Christian faith, according to some, and then he goes and does something that is perfectly in keeping with the New Testament teachings of Jesus, and he gets “hammered” again as being weak. Taking up the Cross of Jesus and loving your enemies and not returning violence for violence does, in so many minds of Americans, show weakness. But it is the Gospel’s …
