HPD arrests alleged prostitute & customer
Janet Harrison, 39, charged by the Henderson Police Department for prostitution. A photograph of Marshall Dunston, 72, the alleged customer, was not made available to Home in Henderson. On July 16, 2009 at 7:25 a.m., officers of the Henderson Police Department responded to the area of Mason Street and Old Epsom Road concerning a report of possible prostitution.

Purdue announces appliance assistance program
Gov. Bev Perdue this week announced that North Carolina is in line to receive $8.8 million in federal funds to help homeowners purchase energy-efficient appliances, from furnaces and room air conditioners to refrigerators and dishwashers.

Golden LEAF meeting tonight at VGCC

This project will be discussed tonight as a possible recipient of funds that the Golden LEAF Foundation intends to bring to Vance County. The Golden LEAF Foundation will be holding a forum tonight at 6:00 p.m. at the Vance-Granville Community College’s Civic Center.
Land planning committee meets today
The Henderson City Council’s Land Planning & Development Committee will meet today at 3:00 p.m. in the large conference room at City Hall. No agenda was given for the meeting.

Anthony “Bookie” Harris, arrested by the HPD for alleged heroin possession and manufacture Henderson Police Chief K.L. Sidwell reported that members of the Henderson Police Department’s Narcotics Unit performed a vehicle stop on Raleigh Road.

Etheridge praises USDA blueberry decision
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge, the only N.C. member of the House Ways and Means Committee, praised the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) announcement yesterday that it intends to purchase up to $14.7 million worth of blueberries for federal nutrition programs.
Edwards to run against Rainey in October
In an email sent to Home in Henderson yesterday evening, local government watchdog Lewis Edwards announced that he will seek Henderson City Council member Mike Rainey’s Ward 2 seat in October.

Ronald Mokey Harrison, 30, arrested for alleged illegal drug activity Chief K.L. Sidwell of the Henderson Police Department reports that members of the Department’s Narcotics Unit conducted an investigation at the address of 220 Kittrell Street in Henderson, North Carolina.

Opinion: Get conflicts out of local gov’t

Mrs. Editor, Little Editor, and I took a fews days off to visit King’s Dominion in Virginia. I worked in an amusement park one summer when I was in college (Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh) and I hadn’t been to one since. I learned two things: 1) My days on the big coasters are over, and; 2) Vending machines take debit cards now. What are your vacation plans, if any? Let us know on today’s open line.
