The Henderson City Council is scheduled to go on a ride-along today at 3:00 p.m. In addition to other areas of the City, they expect to survey Rowland Street and the emergency sewer needs in that area. In that vein, the FAIR Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. today at City Hall to discuss emergency fund appropriations to replace the sewer line in that area. The Daily Dispatch reports that the City’s Land Planning Development Committee is going to give it one more go with the County in a face-to-face to resolve the impasse over the Armory/Rose Avenue Library building issue. Oddly enough, I am currently teaching my 5th graders the term compromise: when one party gives something up to get something in return. Can the City and the County reach this state? Etheridge votes to reduce dependence on foreign oil
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge voted today for the CLEAN Energy Act of 2007, which would repeal $14 billion in government subsidies and tax breaks to oil companies and invest the money in developing alternative fuels and energy efficiency.

On the agenda is the audit report for fiscal year 2005-2006, a budget amendment for street resurfacing, emergency funding for the sewer line on Rowland Street, and a portable jet vac. Winter weather advisory
Vance County is currently under a Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service until 12:00 p.m. on January 18. Up to one-tenth of an inch of ice is expected to accumulate on elevated surfaces. Because of warm ground temperatures, travel conditions should not be affected.

The Public Works Committee is scheduled to meet at 9:00 a.m. at the City Operations Center. With the $700,000 for the Chavasse Avenue widening project, they should have something to talk about. With that, we give you the open line.
