Agents of the Interagency Drug Enforcement Unit found and destroyed 35 marijuana plants during an eradication operation this week, Vance County Sheriff R. Thomas Breedlove and Henderson Police Chief Glen Allen announced Thursday. The plants were 5 to 8 feet tall and would have had an estimated street value of $75,000 at maturity.

2-week grace period planned for Roanoke Avenue

Police Chief Glen Allen issued word Thursday that designated patrols should put a special emphasis on the enforcement of the three new stops on Roanoke Avenue once the signs are in place, but officers should issue warnings only for at least two weeks. “After that ‘adjustment and awareness’ time, handle the enforcement as is appropriate,” Allen wrote in an e-mail message to Capt. Mike Davis, who oversees the patrol division, and to patrol supervisors.
