New VGCC Job Driven Initiative staff connect area residents with training

Two professional staff members are now in place at Vance-Granville Community College to help area residents obtain education and training through a special grant. The college, in partnership with the Kerr-Tar Workforce Development Board, received a $147,000 “NCWorks Job Driven Initiative” (JDI) grant in 2014, made possible by federal funds awarded to the North Carolina Division of Workforce Solutions. Vance-Granville Community College held educational programs for students on three campuses in recognition of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Each program called upon students to “paint the campus purple” by either wearing purple or receiving a purple ribbon, which has become the symbol popularly associated with Domestic Violence Awareness Month. NCDOT Begins Work Next Week on the Triangle Expressway

RALEIGH –The N.C. Department of Transportation will begin work next week to repair pavement settlement issues on the Triangle Expressway at two locations. The first location is on northbound N.C. 540 just before Exit 56A (to northbound U.S. 1), and the second location is on northbound N.C. 540 between mile markers 54.2 and 54.4, near Apex. Farmland preservation grant applications are being accpeted

RALEIGH – County governments and nonprofit groups pursuing farmland preservation projects have until Dec. 18 to apply for funding assistance from the N.C. Agricultural Development and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund. This year’s request for proposals includes statewide general appropriations of $1.6 million for traditional farm preservation projects and an additional $1 million to protect military base and training buffers. Complete 540 Draft Environmental Impact Statement Signed NCDOT

Raleigh –The N.C. Department of Transportation has received word the Federal Highway Administration has signed the draft environmental impact statement (EIS) for the project known as Complete 540. This work will extend the Triangle Expressway from the N.C. 55 Bypass in Apex to the U.S. 64/U.S. 264 Bypass in Knightdale, completing the 540 Outer Loop around the greater Raleigh area.
