Traffic shifts Planned for Rolesville Bypass Project

Raleigh—N.C. Department of Transportation Contractors have two traffic shifts planned for the Rolesville Bypass Project, weather permitting. Beginning tonight, after the evening commute, the contractor will begin shifts that will ultimately result in providing access to a large portion of the U.S. 401 Bypass around Rolesville. The first traffic shift will split northbound and southbound traffic at the location where the existing U.S. 401 intersects with the new U.S. 401 Bypass.  Northbound traffic will continue in its current pattern while …

VGCC and District Attorney Mike Waters team up to support safe driving

Vance-Granville Community College was recently approved by the Safety and Health Council of North Carolina to offer the “Alive at 25” defensive driving training program. The initiative came about through a partnership with District Attorney Michael D. Waters of the Ninth Prosecutorial District, which consists of Vance, Granville, Franklin and Warren counties. Vance-Granville Community College was recently recognized by BestColleges.com as one of the top five two-year colleges in North Carolina, and for offering one of the most affordable online associate degree programs in the country. Chestnut Street Shooting – Reward Offered For Info

On Wednesday, July 8, 2015, Henderson Police Officers responded to 601 N. Chestnut Street in response to a call of someone shot. Officers found Derrick Davis, 29, 857 Cherry Street, Henderson suffering from a gunshot wound. Davis was transported to Maria Parham Medical center for treatment of injuries. RALEIGH – Organic growers in North Carolina can apply for partial reimbursement of the cost of becoming certified or for recertification through a program offered by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Growers who are certified or recertified between Oct. 1, 2014, and Sept. 30, 2015, can apply for assistance through the program. McHenry and Butterfield Introduce Bill to Help Victims Receiving Eugenics Compensation Payments

WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, Congressman Patrick McHenry (R-NC-10) and Congressman G. K. Butterfield (D-NC-01) introduced H.R. 2949, the Treatment of Certain Payments in Eugenics Compensation Act.  This legislation would block all payments received from a state eugenics compensation program from being considered as income when determining eligibility for federal benefits. During the early decades of the 20th century, over 30 states implemented eugenics or compulsory sterilization laws which led to the mandated sterilization of more than 60,000 citizens.  Those sterilized …
