Clarke Elementary Students Publish Works
Members of the third-grade class of Sara Ireland at Clarke Elementary School have had a book published featuring their writings and illustrations. Ireland’s students studied for a few weeks about outer space and our solar system. She used her students’ studies as the basis for the book entitled, “If I Were An Astronaut That Landed On . . .,” with each student selecting a planet, real or imaginary, they would like to visit. One of the most important missions of the Perry Library Youth Department is to promote early literacy within the library through programming and information distribution and to partner with community organizations with similar goals. Franklin-Granville Vance Smart Start, with funding from the Vance County United Way, will be enrolling children in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library at the Perry Memorial Library on Friday, August 8th from noon until 5 pm. VGCC students donate books to local elementary school
The Student North Carolina Association of Educators (SNCAE) chapter at Vance-Granville Community College held a children’s book drive during the month of December. The club placed donation boxes at all four VGCC campuses. Megan Sullivan of Oxford, a member of the club majoring in School-Age Education as well as a VGCC student ambassador, spearheaded the drive.
