Free small-business forum Saturday

People in Vance County who are looking for a fresh start in their professional lives can find some guidance Saturday at the Small Business Opportunities Forum.

The free seminar will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Vance County Senior Center, 126 S. Garnett St. It will present small-business success stories from the area and explain resources and opportunities available for small-business owners.

“This seminar is for anyone who wants to make a positive change within their personal lifestyle through owning and operating a business,” reads a flier promoting the event. “This also applies to anyone who has lost a job or is seeking employment.”

Vance County has topped the state’s unemployment statistics for most of the past two years. The perceived link between economic problems and crime led the Vance County Coalition Against Violence to sponsor the small-business seminar.

Other sponsors are Greater Little Zion United Holy Church, Team Vance, the Henderson-Vance County Chamber of Commerce, the Gateway Community Development Corp., Vance-Granville Community College’s Small Business Center and the North Carolina Institute of Minority Economic Development.

To register for the forum, call Team Vance leader Marolyn Rasheed at 436-1662 or Gateway’s Margaret Ellis at 492-6298.
