Pick of the day: Last leg of Relay

It’s the one 24-hour period of the year when it seems that all of Vance County is pulling in the same direction: the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. It’s an amazing combination of good works and good fun, and it has raised $2.2 million over a decade. Fundraisers have been happening for months, and Relay itself kicked off at 3 p.m. Friday at Southern Vance High School’s track. You still have time to hit the track — walking at 4 a.m. is surprisingly pleasant in mid-June — and spend some money. We’re looking for another record haul by the time survivors lead the last lap at 3 p.m.
