Boys and Girls Clubs holds info meeting

The Boys and Girls Clubs of North Central North Carolina is hosting an informational meeting Tuesday evening January 31, 2006. The meeting will be at the cafeteria of Clark Street School from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide an opportunity to share with the community information about the quest to provide a Boys and Girls Club for Henderson and Vance County.

Each year, Boys and Girls Clubs across the nation give millions of disadvantaged youth the resources and adult guidance they need to succeed. The national organization, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, provides support services and cutting-edge youth development programs to local Clubs across the country and around the world. The local group is equally committed to inspiring our young people to reach their full potential and become productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

A Boys and Girls Club is not just an after-school program or a recreation center. There are five categories in which Boys and Girls Clubs are involved in children’s lives: education and career development; character and leadership development; the arts; health and life skills; as well as sports, fitness, and recreation.

Henderson suffers from high unemployment, high crime including gang activity, high teen pregnancy, and a high dropout rate. Our children are the recipients of our negative statistics and a Boys and Girls Club is a proven intervention. Our children deserve nothing less.
