New Henderson Police Chief Keith L. Sidwell
Late this afternoon Henderson City Manager Jerry Moss announced the appointment of Mr. Keith L. Sidwell, a native of Virginia, as Henderson’s new Chief of Police.
Mr. Sidwell is currently a twenty-four year veteran of the Roanoke, Virginia Police Department and serves as a Lieutenant Zone Commander. The new Chief of Police holds an A.S. in Criminal Justice, B.S. in Occupational Management and Development and a M.A. in Liberal Studies from Hollins University. Chief Sidwell has a very extensive background in municipal policing.
The process of hiring a new Police Chief began in September following the announcement of former Chief Glen B. Allen’s resignation to join the Clayton Police Department. The selection process involved two current police chiefs, two assistant city managers and the City’s Human Resource Manager. In addition, five local citizens served on a Citizen’s Panel and interviewed all candidates to gain their perspective on policing in our community. These ten individuals, plus the City Manager, interviewed the candidates and selected Keith L. Sidwell as the best candidate among more than 75 applicants.
Chief Sidwell and his wife, Bambi currently reside in Vinton, Virginia and have four grown children. Chief Sidwell will assume full command of the Department on January 10, 2007.
