City to discuss annexing Carey Chapel Crossing

During Monday’s regular meeting of the Henderson City Council, Assistant City Manager Frank Frazier described the Carey Chapel Crossing development as a partnership with real estate developer Dennis Tharrington to install water and sewer at the burgeoning housing site.

Frazier also mentioned that funds from the North Carolina Division of Community Assistance were used.

The water and sewer lines have been installed, and, according to Frazier, houses are going up.

The former city engineer told council members that an annexation report that will outline revenues and liabilities, such as the cost of street lights, is being assembled.

City Manager Ray Griffin reminded those present that if the housing development is annexed, it will be the first since 2002. He commented that he was surprised it had been so long.

“Hopefully it will begin some renewed growth,” Griffin said.
