HPD crime analysis helps make vehicle B&E arrest


On January 13, 2010 members of the Henderson Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division along with other officers responded to the Walmart parking lot concerning a report of a breaking and entering of a vehicle in progress.

An investigator who was in the area arrived moments after the call and received a description of the suspect.

The investigator observed the suspect looking into a vehicle. When the detective approached the suspect, he jumped into a vehicle and attempted to flee from the area. Officers pursued the vehicle onto North Cooper drive where the suspect attempted to exit his vehicle and run.

The suspect was apprehended and was identified as John Howard Ellington, Jr., 39, of 705 Gun Club Road in Henderson. After further investigation, Ellington was charged with two counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, larceny, possession of stolen goods, failure to stop for blue light and siren, and felony speeding to elude arrest. Ellington was placed under a $100,000 bond pending a January 25, 2010 court appearance.

Prior to this incident, members of the Criminal Investigations Division along with the Patrol Division had increased their activity and presence in this area due to data produced by the department’s crime analyst. The data produced by the department’s crime analysis indicated both the types of crime and the particular time and days these crimes were being committed.
