The Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre, 3336 Raleigh Road, (US Business 1), in Henderson, North Carolina will hold its third annual Popcorn Box drop to usher in the New Year on Friday, December 31, 2010 starting at 7:00 p.m.
This unique family-oriented event is the only New Years Eve celebration held at an operating drive-in movie theatre on a world-wide basis!
Friday evening will begin with showing two Disney holiday movies. Tangled (PG) will be shown first at 7:00 p.m. and then Tron: Legacy (PG) at 9:00 p.m.. At 11:30 p.m., the theatre will provide movie patrons with glasses of sparkling cider, party hats and horns before the large eight-foot tall popcorn box drops from a 110 foot crane provided by Harper Crane Service at midnight to usher in the New Year. This popular event has attracted patrons from all along the East Coast with several patrons driving as far away as New Hampshire to attend this celebration.
Families attending the event will be given a chance to enter a contest for a $100 Disney Gift Card that is good towards purchases at The Disney Store or one of Disney’s theme parks.
Weather is predicted be spring-like with temperatures in the 60’s during the day and mid-40’s at night!
Concessions will be available during the night. Admission to this event is: $6 for adults and $3 for children ages five to twelve. Admission includes the both the movies and the event.

The Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre is the only remaining drive-in theatre in the Triangle area and North Carolina’s oldest operating theatre at 61 years old. It is one of only five drive-in theatres still operating in North Carolina.
