Vance County Schools Superintendent Message

To the Parents of Students in the Vance County School System:

The Vance County School System is committed to educating all students to prepare them for lifelong learning and productive citizenship.

The mission of the State Board of Education is that every public school student will graduate from high school, globally competitive for work and post-secondary education and prepared for life in the 21st Century.

Each of the 16 schools in our school system functions daily to carry out the above missions. In order to accomplish our goals, we must have strong parent involvement and commitment for our children.

As a parent, require your child or children to do their best academically and behaviorally each day that they attend school. Make sure that they are in attendance daily, check to see that homework is done and stay on top of your child’s/children’s grades. This is best done by holding your child/children to higher performance standards. Do not accept excuses. Your children are smart, so require greatness in their performance.

On the high school level, our students have laptop computers from a grant of 1.2 million dollars from The Golden Leaf Foundation. Each computer costs approximately $600. They are used for instructional purposes only and should be given the utmost care and protection.

You know your child’s needs far better than they know their needs. Your child will be competing against the world, not just Vance County. Therefore, you should require them to aspire to greatness.

As I am requiring greatness of our principals, teachers, administrative support staff and our students, I am requesting greatness of you as parents.

Our community deserves the best from all of us. Together, we can make our school system the best in the state and nation. Our children deserve the best, and we should together make it possible for them to achieve greatness.

Thank you,

Ronald E. Gregory
Superintendent of Schools
