Hunger Games tour of “District 12” brings fans to Burke County

Fans of The Hunger Games trilogy and movie can now get a taste of what it’s like to be heroine Katniss Everdeen with a tour of Henry River Mill Village. The village was one of the filming sites for the movie and stood in for District 12, home of Everdeen and other fan favorites. Hunger Games Fan Tour, based in Brevard, is offering and conducting the tours. The tours are possible after Ed Phillips at the Burke County TDA helped Hunger Games Fan Tours creators, Leigh Trapp and Tammy Hopkins, partner up with Wade Shepherd, owner of Henry River Mill Village, according to information from the tours. “Last year we had sold out tours in the Brevard area at DuPont State Recreational Forest showing fans the scenes used in ‘the arena’ during the movie The Hunger Games,” said Tammy Hopkin. “We’re excited for Burke County because fan tours boost the local economy. We hope to hire locals in the summer to help lead tours and we look forward to forging partnerships with Burke County businesses as the tours grow and develop.”
