Annabelle Webb, a senior at Northern Vance High School, has been recognized by N.C. Gov. Pat McCrory as one of 13 student leaders from across the state for their outstanding service during the 46th annual Youth Leadership Assembly (YLA) held April 1-3 in Raleigh.
“We are focused on supporting North Carolina’s next generation of future leaders,” McCrory said. “Our state’s high school students are the best in the country, particularly when it comes to civic leadership and public service. I am proud of each and every one of these student leaders.”
Webb received an Outstanding Service Award, which is given to the delegate from each YLA committee who contributed the most to discussions during the assembly. She served on the Youth Affairs Committee.
Other students honored are from high schools in Charlotte, Raleigh, Elizabethtown, Garner, La Grange, Lenoir, Timberlake, Wilson and Hickory.
The three-day Youth Leadership Assembly teaches participating students about the state’s laws and the law making process. Students draft, debate and vote on mock legislative bills while they develop skills in research, interviewing, group facilitation and policy writing.
