Vance County Schools End-of-Year Testing Approaches

Students in Vance County Schools have entered the last month of the school year with a lot of important work still to be done in local classrooms.
Teachers and students at the elementary, middle and high school levels are working diligently each day to complete the school year on a successful note and to prepare for students to do their best on the required state testing.
With the exception of students at the Vance County Early College High School, which completes classes for this school year on Tuesday, May 24, the local public school system will operate through Friday, June 3.
The N.C. end-of-grade tests in reading and mathematics will be given to students in grades 3-8 Tuesday, May 24, through Thursday, May 26. Students who do not score at grade level on these tests will receive remediation instruction on Friday, May 27, and Tuesday, May 31, through Friday, June 3.
The N.C. end-of-grade science test will be given to all fifth-grade students in the 10 elementary schools on Thursday, May 26.
The N.C. Read to Achieve test, which measures whether or not students are reading on grade level, will be given to selected students in third grade in the elementary schools on Wednesday, June 1. Students who do not test at grade level will be required to attend the school system’s Summer Reading Camp.
At Northern Vance, Southern Vance and Western Vance high schools, the N.C. end-of-course tests, N.C. Final Exams and Career and Technical Education assessments will be given to students beginning on Friday, May 27, and continuing on Tuesday, May 31, through Friday, June 3.
Students’ performances on all of these tests are extremely important to their overall success for the 2015-2016 school year. Parents and guardians of students are urged to be sure students receive a good night’s sleep prior to testing and arrive at school each day on time and ready to focus on each test.
