The North Carolina Community Foundation in accordance with the Frances Abbot Burton Powers Endowment awarded three Henderson, NC groups as recipients of the 2016 grant program. Vance County High School Robotics Team, the Henderson-Vance Downtown Development Commission, and Community Partners of Hope all received grants this year. A ceremony was hosted on Thursday, August 18th, 2016 at accounting firm Phillips, Dorsey, Thomas, Waters and Bradford, P.A.
Vance County High School Robotics Team received general operating support for the 2016-2017 robotics competition, helping to fund entry fees, supplies, training and equipment. In attendance accepting the grant were Erin Williams – Science Teacher and Club Advisor, Brandon Lawrence – High School Senior, and Hunter DeMent – High School Senior Senior.
Henderson-Vance Downtown Development Commission received funds towards construction of an outdoor pavilion in downtown Henderson, NC to serve as a multipurpose outdoor community center. In attendance were Carolyn Powell – HVDDC Executive Director, and Phil Hart – HVDDC Board Chair. Community Partners of Hope received funding towards general operating support for Hope House Transitional Housing located in downtown Henderson, NC. Accepting the award were Dr. Ron Cava – CPoH Chair, and Pastor Joseph Ratliff – CPoH Board Member
In attendance from the Frances Abbot Burton Powers Endowment fund to present the awards were Dr. Marian Lark – Board member and Frank Irvin – Board member along with Quinn E. Novels – Northern Piedmont Regional Director of the North Carolina Community Foundation
