I fail to understand why the city council thinks more “gaming booths” are something the area needs. First of all “gaming booths” are for suckers only. They are nothing more than a computer program designed to reward the owner and not the sucker paying to use it. Flipping a coin gives better odds than any computer program that is designed to make a profit for the owner. The preponderance of the “players” are denizens of our Section 8 housing looking for a quick reward without any effort. As a State leader in Section 8 housing, how many other loser businesses can we attract?
While I am thinking about the idiotcgracy of our city government I am wondering if there a way to send the county’s public relations guy back to New York City? The County is paying he and his wife more than $100,000 and the best we get is a suggestion that development sites be certified as such. Obviously he failed to understand that county zoning certifies development sites. (Yes, she is also on the County’s payroll through the library. What happened to the certified librarian who was there before the public relations guy’s wife was hired?)
We have uploaded the full agenda packet for this meeting now, please download from the link above.
Phil, I had read the city council agenda and knew that “gaming booths” were not on the agenda. I was only wondering why a bail bondsman and supposed preacher favored “gaming booths”. One makes their living selling temporary freedom to people who commit crimes to fund their wants. The other has supposedly read the biblical story about the gamblers in the temple. They should both know from their chosen professions that “gaming booths” are not a positive influence for growth and development of a community.
Hey there anonymous whatever cryptic message you attempted to deliver about the paper was as hollow as you.
The new Economic Development Commisioner, Stuart Litvin was hired to do a job in Henderson at which no one else has ever had mearurable success. We are fortunate to have a person of Mr.Litvins intelligence and experience to tackle this extremely difficult and apparently thankless job. Mrs. Litvin, like many wives today, took a part time job to supplement Mr. Litvin’s average compensation for the position into which he was hired. Mr. Litvin is on the job a matter of months and rather than supporting his efforts some anonymous whiners in town would rather slander this fine couple just to bolster a pathetic need for self-importance. We who believe in the future of Henderson and are betting on it need to stand together in support of our Economic Council and Mr. Litvin.
The person who posted about sending Mr. Litvin back to New York should check his/her facts first….He is Director of Economic Development with over 30 years experience and is a Certified Economic Community Developer and is not the “public relatons guy”. He has spent more time in the South (Virginia, Mississippi, Louisiana and Florida) than in New York. This person also doesn’t understand that zoning has very little to do about having State Certified Shovel Ready sites that have to meet a whole set of criteria other than just zoning for the State to use in marketing Vance County. This person reaches a low by attacking his wife as well….again get the facts right…she is a circulation/desk staff person and was not hired as a full librarian, a poition she had held at everal libraries in other communities…the right to free speach is a good thing, but when used to spew venomous comments without being factual it makes one wonder what hidden motive or agenda is behnd this person’s comments. Instead of tearing down, this person should spend time doing more to make this community a better place.
I have met Mr. Litvin several times and he has been nothing short of honest, intelligent and forth-right about the pro’s and con’s of our area. Personally I am thrilled our city has hired such a high quality individual. Mr. Litvin has thick skin, after all he did grow up in the shadows of Yankee Stadium. But besides that and most importantly, he appears to understand what kind of effort it will take to grow a town like ours economically. To be honest with everyone, this project all starts with every citizen displaying pride and a positive attitude towards the place we call home.
Going after his wife and him as a person, not as a professional is low. Mr. Litvin is wise enough to know tha people who live in government housing are not the ones who close the deal on a new venture coming to Henderson. However, he is wise enough to understand that those same individuals are almost a ready-made workforce.
I would like to see Henderson and Vance County moving away from Section 8 and all the businesses that feed off of it.
