HFD inspects over 1,500 homes for fire safety
On October 11, 2010, City of Henderson Fire Department personnel went door to door to talk to residents in the City of Henderson about fire safety, checking smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms.
Upcoming county meetings
The Vance County Board of Commissioners’ General Government Committee is scheduled to meet on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. The commission’s Education Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. Both meetings will be in the County Manager’s conference room. That room is located in the County Administration Building, 122 Young Street in Henderson, North Carolina.
Car seat check Nov. 18
The Safe Kids Henderson — Vance Coalition will be sponsoring a free child passenger safety car seat clinic on Thursday, November 18, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Compare Foods, E. Andrews Avenue in Henderson, North Carolina.

HPD-ATF campaign nets 17 indictments/sentences
In a campaign spanning the last two years, members of the Henderson Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, Narcotics Unit, and Power Shift have worked in conjunction with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina to indict and prosecute numerous offenders in the federal court system.

Board of ed. to hold called exec session
The Vance County Board of Education will hold a called meeting on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 8:30 a.m. in the Administrative Services Center, 1724 Graham Avenue in Henderson, North Carolina. The purpose of the meeting is to hold an executive session.
City council holds line on retiree insurance benefits
In an unanimous vote, the Henderson City Council voted not to lower the health benefits of city retirees under the age of 65 from “enhanced” to “standard”.

Kudos to Mike Rainey of the Henderson City Council for putting loyalty over the bottom line when he led the vote to keep retired city workers at their current level of insurance. On Friday November 5, 2010, Officer J. Freeman of the Henderson Police Department Highway Traffic Safety Unit conducted a vehicle stop on I-85 at the 213 mile marker.
City to hold called meeting on joint funding
Henderson Mayor Pete O’Geary has called a special meeting of the Henderson City Council for the purpose of discussing joint programs. The meeting will be held on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the Henderson Municipal Building, 134 Rose Avenue in Henderson, North Carolina. The public is invited to attend.
City establishes Beacon Light Apts. demo budget
In an item introduced into the Henderson City Council’s regular monthly meeting agenda last night, the council acted unanimously to establish a budget for the demolition of the Beacon Light Apartments for the purpose of tracking expenses.

Grants create 55 jobs, six in Vance County
