Vance-Granville Community Band kicks off holiday season with free concert
The Vance-Granville Community Band presented its fifth annual free Holiday Concert on Thursday, Dec. 6 in the Civic Center on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County. The band, which is a joint effort between VGCC students and interested citizens, started the evening’s program with music that is fit for any season: a Sousa march, “Sabre and Spurs,” and a medley of classical pieces by Mozart. VGCC offers course on building, repairing computers
Vance-Granville Community College is currently registering students for a course that will teach area residents how to get the best performance out of their personal computers. “PC Maintenance & Repair” is scheduled to be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m., Jan. 10 through April 2, on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County. VGCC Computer classes scheduled at Main Campus in January
Vance-Granville Community College is currently registering students for several popular, short-term computer courses starting in Jan. 2013 on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County. Two are offered during the evening. First, the “Beginner’s Guide to Computers & Internet,” is scheduled for Tuesdays from 6 until 10 p.m., Jan. 8 through Feb. 12. All four campuses of Vance-Granville Community College will take a break for the holidays, beginning Dec. 19, and then open for business again on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. VGCC schedules new workshop for Afterschool professionals

NC Students Among Highest Achievers On International Math Assessments

Vance County Schools – High School Academic All-Conference
Student athletes at Northern Vance and Southern Vance high schools proved during the fall that they are performing at a high level both in the classroom and on the playing field. A total of 50 athletes at Northern Vance and 57 athletes at Southern Vance made Academic All-Conference while participating in fall sports for the 3-A Carolina Conference. VGCC holds College Fair for transferring students
Vance-Granville Community College hosted admissions officers from four-year colleges and universities on Nov. 27 in the student lounge on VGCC’s Main Campus. The event was VGCC’s annual College Fair, where students obtain important information about transfer requirements, financial aid and scholarships that can help them continue their education. The fair was organized by the VGCC Counseling Department. Vance-Granville Community College held a “Native American Appreciation Day” in the Civic Center on the college’s Main Campus on Nov. 26, during the national celebration of Native American Heritage Month. Students from VGCC’s Cosmetology programs on Main Campus, South Campus and Franklin County Campus helped to organize the event. The head of VGCC’s Cosmetology program, Tomeka Moss, is herself a member of the Haliwa-Saponi tribe. U.S. Senator Kay Hagan held one of her “Conversations with Kay” events at Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus near Louisburg on Nov. 12. Vance-Granville Community College has introduced a new online tool that aims to help current and future students find the answers to their questions, with a few clicks of a mouse. “Ask VGCC,” powered by software called IntelliResponse, is a repository of frequently asked questions (FAQs).
