Flue-cured tobacco growers in North Carolina will have a chance to vote Jan. 27 on whether to continue their self-assessment to support export promotion and expansion programs conducted by Tobacco Associates for the next three crop marketing years. On Wednesday, December 23, 2015, members of the Henderson Police Department arrested Cadarius Rhasda Caldwell on federal firearms related charges. He has been indicted on one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. Henderson Police Investigating Sales of Alcohol to Underage
On December 29th in a covert operation, a teenage volunteer accompanied by Henderson Police officers targeted twenty (20) convenience stores to test proper alcohol and tobacco sales practices. Seventeen out of the twenty stores sold both alcohol and tobacco to the underage individual. Charges are pending and further information on the violators and the location of the violations will be released soon.
School Bus Drivers to Use New Hand Signals; Requirement Helps Boost Student Safety
Beginning January 1 2016, all North Carolina public school bus drivers will be required to use hand signals to help students safely cross the road to board the bus. The North Carolina State Board of Education approved this revision to its bus safety policy at its July meeting. In the 2014-15 academic year alone, five North Carolina students were injured by motorists passing stopped school buses. Since 1999, 13 students have been killed while boarding or exiting a school bus. …
