County committees to meet Sept. 30 & Oct. 4
The Vance County Board of Commissioners’ General Government Committee is scheduled to meet on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. The Planning/Environmental Committee is scheduled to meet Monday, October 4, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. The Human Resources Committee will also meet on Monday, October 4, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. All of the above meetings will be in the County Manager’s Office. That office is located in the County Administration Building, 122 Young Street in Henderson, North Carolina.

I’ve been asked several times why Home in Henderson is not participating in this year’s candidate’s debate. The answer, very simply, is that we were not asked to participate. I wonder why. After all, I went to all of the meetings, contributed actively, paid HiH‘s share of the costs when it was appropriate, and I didn’t fling poo at a single candidate during the events, as tempting as it sometimes was. Special city council meeting on joint funding Sept. 28
Henderson Mayor Pete O’Geary has called a special meeting of the Henderson City Council for the purpose of discussing jointly funded projects of Henderson and Vance County. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers in City Hall, 134 Rose Avenue in Henderson, North Carolina.

The Vance County Board of Education’s Building & Grounds Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday, September 23, 2010 has been cancelled. No reason was given for the cancellation, nor was a reschedule date given.
Golf tourney to benefit SVHS art dept. Oct. 29
