Car seat checkpoint today
The Henderson-Vance chaper of Safe Kids NC will hold a Car Seat Check in the Rose’s Department Store parking lot on Norlina Road from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. today. The purpose of the checkpoint is to ensure that car seats are properly installed and are in good working order.

Recycling art/essay contest winners honored
Recycling Art & Essay Contest Award Winners Students in Vance County Schools were honored by the Vance County Board of Commissioners at their November 6 meeting for their award-winning work in the Vance County Appearance Commission Art and Essay Contests held in October.
Every Child Ready to Read Parent/Teacher Workshop
The workshop will take place this Saturday November 4 at 2:00 p.m., and it is designed for parents, caregivers, and teachers of children ages 2-3. The program is limited to 35 parents and teachers, and it will provide helpful tips, handouts, and giveaways that will help parents and teachers with reading to children. Don’t forget the 2006 Henderson Downtown Halloween this evening from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Henderson-Vance Downtown Development Commission and has proved to be good yearly fun for children and adults alike. Breckenridge Street from Garnett to Wyche Streets will be closed as a children’s activity center. See you there!
