Senator Richard Burr Message

Submitted Article June 26, 2011 Opinion, Politics

This Week in Washington This week, the President announced a plan to drawdown our current troop levels in Afghanistan and bring home the 33,000 American troops who were part of the “surge” that began in 2009.  I am hopeful that this plan achieves the appropriate balance between building on the progress that American forces have made in Afghanistan, ensuring stability in the region – particularly in Pakistan – and handing over security to the Afghan people. On Wednesay, the Congressional …

North Carolina has wasted $318 million dollars in a debacle regarding which company handles the state medicaid claims processing. EDS (now owned by Hewlett Packard) held the contract with North Carolina for years when in 2004 it was suggested to rebid out the contract.  In 2004 ACS (Affiliated Computer Services) won the bid with the lowest cost, but failed to deliver a working system.  The state cancelled, ACS sued, and NC paid 10.5 million for breach of contract.  In 2008, …

Fathers Day Message from POTUS

Submitted Article June 19, 2011 That's life

Good morning, I grew up without a father around. I was lucky enough to be raised by a wonderful mother who, like so many heroic single mothers, never allowed my father’s absence to be an excuse for me to slack off or not always do my best. But I often wonder what it would have been like if my father had a greater presence in my life. So as a father of two young girls, I’ve tried hard to be …

RALEIGH – While data from early years of the N.C. Eugenics Board’s sterilization program reflect inconsistent recordkeeping, reports from the program’s most active years clearly identify counties where the highest number of procedures were performed.
