Eighteen local educators have completed their participation in the prestigious Vance County Teacher Executive Institute (TEI) for 2015-2016. They were each honored at the TEI graduation and dinner on March 17, at the Henderson Country Club. New National Junior Honor Society Members
Eaton-Johnson Middle School inducted nine students into the school’s chapter of the National Junior Honor Society during a special ceremony held on March 22. Friday, March 25th. The fact that pencils have erasers is supposed to indicate that no one is perfect. But it’s doubtful that people were perfect before this month in 1858. That’s when Hyman Lipman was granted a patent for a pencil with an incorporated rubber eraser. Former Vance County Schools Superintendent Dr. Norman Shearin passed away late Tuesday. Visitation is scheduled at 12:00 pm, Friday, March 25th, at the Kure Memorial Lutheran Church followed by the funeral at 1:00 pm. Church address is 117 3rd Avenue, Kure Beach. Burial will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington. Dr. Shearin served as Superintendent of Vance County Schools from January 2003 until his retirement in April 2011.
