Barracudas keep improving but fall to Five Oaks

The Vance Aquatics Club fell to 0-4 in Division III of the Durham Summer Swim League with a 204-152 loss to Five Oaks on Wednesday evening at the Aycock Recreation Complex, but the Barracudas continued to pick up speed as the end of the DSSL season approaches.

The 24 Barracudas who swam in the second and final home meet of the summer combined to post 39 personal bests, according to the official meet results.

Vance’s girls were particularly strong Wednesday, winning the freestyle relay for the first time this year and producing three individual triple winners: Katelynn Ray (6-and-under freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke); Katelyn Johnson (7-8 freestyle, backstroke and butterfly); and Karissa Thomas (15-18 freestyle, backstroke and butterfly).

Other winning Barracudas were Christopher Johnson (6-and-under freestyle and backstroke), Curtis Ray (9-10 freestyle and breaststroke), Lydia Harrop (13-14 freestyle and butterfly), Michael Busada (15-18 freestyle and breaststroke) and Kaitlin Polak (11-12 freestyle).

The Barracudas close the regular season Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Treyburn, then compete in the DSSL championship meet at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Koury Natatorium on July 8 and 9.
