Butterfield to surprise Pinkston St. fifth grader
After receiving a letter expressing doubt about even getting a response, Congressman G. K. Butterfield will surprise the Pinkston Street School fifth grader who wrote to him with a visit to the school.

It looks like I won’t be a participant in the free Weatherization Assistance Program after all (We make too much. Big surprise). However, we’re told that there are several opportunities for the middle class, including tax credits (30%) on retrofits and sales tax reductions on vehicle purchases. City to apply for waste reduction management grant
Public Works Director Linda Leyen told members of the Henderson City Council that a community waste reduction grant, if awarded, will be used for public education.

State board of ed. meeting highlights
At last week’s board meeting, members approved select high schools to participate in the American Diploma Project Algebra II exam, funding formula options for the North Carolina Virtual Public School for submission to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee, the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, and the renewal of charters for schools whose charters expire in June.
