Vance-Granville Community College’s Board of Trustees approved the addition of new certificates in the Pharmacy Technology curriculum program and the College and Career Promise (CCP) Pathways at the bimonthly meeting on the college’s Main Campus on Monday, May 21. Tech Expo Held on May 15
Over 200 Vance County Schools educators attended the school system’s Tech Expo held at Clarke Elementary School during the afternoon of May 15. Members of the “We Inspire” technology cohort groups, who all work in our schools, led the collaborative event over its approximately two-hour period. Top Graduates in Class of 2018 Honored
Vance County Schools hosted the annual “Honoring Academic Success” banquet for the top graduating seniors in the Class of 2018 during the evening of Wednesday, May 16, at McGregor Hall in downtown Henderson. Approximately 60 Class of 2018 members from AdVance Academy, Early College High, Southern Vance High and Northern Vance High were honored and presented with medallions. Class Night for Northern Vance High Seniors
Members of the Class of 2018 at Northern Vance High School were honored during the evening of May 17, at their Class Night celebration held in the school’s gymnasium. Students in the 177-member class were recognized for their accomplishments during their high school careers. They also accepted scholarships to further their educations at colleges and universities beginning this fall. Their scholarships totaled almost $2 million. An audience of about 500 people attended Class Night to pay tribute to the graduates. …
Bypass of Untreated Wastewater
The City of Henderson’s Sewer Collection System bypassed approximately 968,000 gallons of untreated water starting May 7, 2018 due to a fallen tree and other debris dislodging the existing sanitary sewer on piers across the creek. This occurred on the Red Bud Outfall to the west of Tiny Broadwick Boulevard and Oxford Road (Hwy 158 Business). After locating the problem, pumps were set up to begin pumping the spill back into the sewer system and approximately 202,500 gallons of affected creek water was pumped back …
Early College Seniors Honored at Class Night
Members of the Class of 2018 at Vance County Early College High School were honored during the evening of May 15 at their Class Night. A total of 38 seniors are in the graduating class. The Class of 2018 at Southern Vance High School, with 170 members, were honored May 15 during their Class Night celebration in the school’s gymnasium. They were recognized for their achievements during their high school careers and received scholarship funds to further their education in college. Upcoming Closure and Traffic Shifts for I-85
Work on the Interstate 85 improvement project in Vance and Warren counties is requiring a series of traffic shifts and closures this coming week. On Monday, May 7, I-85 northbound traffic will shift on a median crossover just north of U.S. 1.
