At 9:54 AM today, a 65 year-old female was confronted by a black male with a handgun in the parking lot of the Charter School, 1227 Dabney Drive, Henderson. The male demanded the female for her purse and keys. The black male then took the female’s vehicle a drove in the direction of Hardees on Dabney Drive. An Oxford tobacco warehouse owner pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to a fraud insurance scam and could face up to five years in prison. Keaton Rankin’s charges include conspiring to make false statement, making material false statement, committing mail and wire fraud, and structuring transactions. Rankin, from September 2006 to November 2007, conspired with others to defraud the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation, according to a Department of Justice news release. A 71-year-old pedestrian was killed Monday afternoon when she was struck by a car on Munns Road in Granville County, according to the state Highway Patrol. Troopers were dispatched to the area after reports of a woman lying on the side of the road. Linda Michalina was found dead at the scene. On May 31, 2012 members of the Henderson Police Department Vice/Narcotics Unit and SWAT team conducted a search warrant at 1261 Americal Road Lot 40, Henderson in reference to an ongoing narcotics investigation conducted by the Henderson Police Department, Oxford Police Department, and the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement. Members of the Henderson Police Department are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Michael Louis Lackey, 36, of 1015 Lands End Court North Augusta, South Carolina. Mr. Lackey is wanted on one count of common law robbery and one count of obtaining property by false pretenses. The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $2,500 reward in hopes of gathering information regarding a neglected and abandoned dog. On May 22, officials with the Vance County Animal Services found a female pit bull tied to a pole by a telephone cord. Alex Hargrove, director of Vance Co. Animal Services, says the dog was thin, dehydrated and covered with mange and sores. On May 5th, 2012 around 1:45AM, Officers of the Henderson Police Department responded to the breaking and entering of Family Dollar located at 112 Raleigh Rd. Through further investigation, Officers were able to locate and arrest Kenneth Jerome Turner, DOB 10-8-1965, later that same day. On May 1, 2012 around 7:18 PM, members of the Henderson Police Department arrested 6 individuals on narcotics charges.  Officers were at 845 Lamb Street conducting an investigation related to an assault that occurred at 1817 N. Garnett Street, Henderson. Upon investigation, officers located four dosage units of heroin and 1.4 grams of marijuana. In news from Millburn, New Jersey, at the retail store Nordstrom, a Shanece Kearney of Henderson N.C., used a credit card in March to charge $2,639 worth of merchandise and left the store. Later that day, Nordstrom received a call from a Nordstrom in Menlo Park stating that Kearney had been arrested by Edison police for attempting to use the same credit card, which belonged to another woman.
