VGCC Libraries see Increased Use of Expanded Resources
Library services have never been more accessible at Vance-Granville Community College than they are today, and students and instructors are taking advantage of a wide variety of resources. Usage of VGCC libraries, or Learning Resources Centers, is on the rise, according to Dave Trudeau, the college’s Director of Library Services. Total circulation in the LRC on VGCC’s Main Campus was 40% higher in 2012 than it had been in 2010, while use of the library’s computers was up 74%. In …
VGCC adding Paralegal degree program
Vance-Granville Community College will offer a two-year Paralegal Technology degree program, starting with the fall semester, which begins Aug. 19. The new program, which will be based at VGCC’s Franklin County Campus near Louisburg, will prepare area residents to work under the supervision of attorneys by performing routine legal tasks and assisting with substantive legal work. Paralegals may interview clients, investigate facts, draft documents and perform legal research for attorneys, although they cannot independently give legal advice or represent clients …
VGCC to offer Simulation and Game Development courses
When Vance-Granville Community College’s fall semester begins Aug. 19, area residents will have new opportunities to train for a growing number of jobs in the world of designing video games and 3-D simulations. VGCC is now offering the Simulation and Game Development degree program through a partnership with Wake Technical Community College. VGCC offers Wire-Wrapped Jewelry class
Vance-Granville Community College will offer a two-hour class in which participants will learn techniques for crafting elegant handmade jewelry. The “Wire-Wrapped Jewelry” class is scheduled for Saturday, June 22 from 10 a.m. until noon on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County. Students present Quilt to VGCC President
Students in Quilting classes at Vance-Granville Community College recently surprised the president of the college with a unique gift. On May 29, students and their instructor, Peggy Stocks, presented an original quilt (complete with matching pillowcases), called “Very Good Color Combination,” to VGCC President Stelfanie Williams. Vance County Schools – Free Physicals for Student Athletes
Free physicals for student athletes will be given Wednesday, June 5, at Southern Vance High School. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. in the gymnasium. The physicals are for interscholastic individuals and not recreational teams and are available to Vance County Schools’ student athletes, as well as student athletes from Kerr-Vance Academy, Crossroads Christian School and Victory Christian School. VGCC celebrates another Record-Setting Benefit Golf Tournament
Vance-Granville Community College’s 29th annual Endowment Fund Golf Tournament generated approximately $35,420 from entry fees and from sponsors to help fund scholarships for deserving students and support the mission of the college. That result set a new record as the highest-grossing golf tournament in VGCC history. Twenty-five new graduates of Vance-Granville Community College’s two-year Radiography program were honored in a May 6 pinning ceremony in the college’s Civic Center.
