VGCC adding Pharmacy Technology two-year degree
Vance-Granville Community College is expanding its Pharmacy Technology program by adding a new option for students to earn an Associate in Applied Science degree in the field, providing graduates with the skills necessary to qualify for more employment opportunities. The degree program is set to begin in the Fall 2013 semester, which starts Aug. 19. Advanced Digital Media class at Southern Vance High School Video Contest Request
Students in the Advanced Digital Media class at Southern Vance High School have produced a video that is one of 17 finalists in the Fox50 Lip Dub Contest through the Fox50 television station in Raleigh. Student groups produce their own video, which features students singing to a specific track of music. The video also includes signs, props and more. Local residents are asked to view the video and then cast their vote online for the Southern Vance High School video. …

VGCC to hold Benefit Golf Tournament on May 7
The 29th annual Vance-Granville Community College Endowment Fund Golf Tournament will be held at the Henderson Country Club on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Last year’s tournament raised a record-high $33,250 from entry fees and from sponsors, adding to the more than $400,000 that has been raised by VGCC tournaments since 1985. Van Brunt retires as Dean at VGCC
Bobby Van Brunt of Henderson recently retired after more than six years as an administrator at Vance-Granville Community College and a total of 19 years of service in higher education. His VGCC colleagues held a retirement reception in his honor on March 21 at the college’s Main Campus. Van Brunt joined VGCC in 2006 as Dean of Applied Technologies and Public Service, later served as Dean of Business and Applied Technologies, and retired as Dean of Special Projects. He also …

Criminal Justice Technology students at Vance-Granville Community College recently conducted a community service project that brightened the Easter holiday for local children. Vance-Granville Community College students, faculty and staff were able to travel the world without leaving campus on March 20, during the college’s annual Cultural Fair. Summer curriculum classes at Vance-Granville Community College begin on May 16, and students can begin registration in April. VGCC names new Radiography program head
Bobby G. Austin of Graham, N.C. was recently named program head for the Radiography degree program at Vance-Granville Community College. He brings many years of experience both as a radiologic technologist and as an educator to his new position. Austin received his initial radiography training while serving in the United States Air Force from 1974 through 1978. Study shows VGCC education pays off for students and for local economy
Vance-Granville Community College students see a healthy return on their investment in education, and the region benefits from the education provided by the college to the tune of $271.3 million per year. Those are among the key findings of a new report by Idaho-based Economic Modeling Specialists Intl. (EMSI) on VGCC’s contributions to individual students, taxpayers and the regional economy.
