New Charter High School Receives Final Approval and Announces Site Location
Oxford Preparatory High School received final charter approval at Thursday’s State Board of Education meeting in Raleigh and will be the first charter high school in the region when it opens in August. VGCC nominates student for statewide leadership award
Vance-Granville Community College recently nominated Frank D. Allison of Louisburg, a student in the College Transfer program, for the North Carolina Community College System’s Governor Robert W. Scott Student Leadership Award. The award was established in 2004 in honor of Scott, who served as Governor of North Carolina from 1969-1973, and as President of the N.C. Historian to discuss Global Economic Competition at VGCC
Vance-Granville Community College will host noted economic historian Dr. Peter Coclanis for a presentation entitled “India, China, and the United States: The Battle for Global Economic Supremacy in the 21st Century,” on Wednesday, April 3 from 11 a.m. until noon in the Civic Center on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County. VGCC offers evening Medical Terminology on Main Campus
Vance-Granville Community College is currently registering students for Medical Terminology, the first of four courses included in the 13-month Medical Coding certificate program. Classes will be held in Building 5 on VGCC’s Main Campus on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6 until 9 p.m., March 25 through July 17. The Terminology course is the introduction to the language of medicine. Registration ongoing for VGCC Earth Day Run/Walk
Vance-Granville Community College is inviting students, faculty, staff and members of the community to promote both healthier living and a healthier planet by participating in the second annual Earth Day 5K Fun Run/Walk. The event is part of the college’s celebration of Earth Day, to be held on Monday, April 22 on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County. Vance-Granville Community College’s Main Campus served as a local host site for the 2013 FAFSA Day on Saturday, Feb. 23. Henderson Police Department participates in “Wild about Reading”
On December 4th 2012, the Chief of Police and members of the Henderson Police Department met with Kanika Turrentine of Infinite Possibilities. Louisburg College Reclaims Ownership of Renovated Residence Halls
LOUISBURG, NC – Louisburg College is pleased to announce the re-acquisition of three residence halls that have been owned by an outside partner since 2003. N.C. Department of Public Instruction Receives 70 Charter School Applications
The N.C. Department of Public Instruction received 70 applications from organizations proposing to open a public charter school in August 2014. These applications were received by the March 1 deadline and represent the largest collection of applications ever submitted since the first public charter school opened in North Carolina in 1997. VGCC to offer Biotech Workshop to high school students
Vance-Granville Community College is preparing to hold its first-ever Biotech Workshop for local high school students. All tenth, eleventh and twelfth graders who have taken or are currently taking biology and chemistry are invited to attend the workshop, which is set to take place over the course of two Saturdays: April 20 and April 27, each day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students must attend on both days. Vance-Granville Community College graduate Ariel Greenwood was back on campus recently discussing how her experience as a North Carolina State University student could be applied to the community college. On Jan. 24, Greenwood was the guest speaker at a “lunch and learn” session organized by the VGCC Sustainability Committee. A new Vance-Granville Community College Personal Enrichment course on raising chickens has been rescheduled. The one-day “Backyard Chicken Craft” class is now set to be held on Saturday, March 2 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. (including a one-hour lunch break), with a classroom component at VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County and a hands-on component at instructor Mike Holland’s farm on Lickskillet Road in Warren County. VGCC Board Holds Meeting
The Vance-Granville Community College Board of Trustees held its regular bimonthly meeting on Monday, January 28 at the college’s Henderson campus. At the meeting, the Board voted to approve a mid-year amendment to the 2012-2013 Budget Resolution, which increased the college’s budget by $1,331,728. The College’s total combined amended 2012-2013 budget is now $47,271,031. The Board also heard an update on Capital Building Projects from Building Committee Chair John M. Foster. New Vance County Schools Bullying Hotline
Vance County Schools has established a hotline for persons to call to report instances of bullying in our local public schools. The hotline can be reached by calling 252-431-3682. Persons calling should state their name and the school in which the bullying is occurring. Reports received through the hotline will be investigated within 12 hours. School Bus Driver Training March 18-20
Vance County Schools will be conducting school bus driver training sessions Monday, March 18 through Wednesday, March 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day in the Drama Room at Southern Vance High School.
