Vance County Schools – Summer Enrichment Camp
Vance County Schools is now enrolling children in its Funtastic Kids Club Summer Enrichment Program to be held June 18-August 10 at Zeb Vance Elementary School. Children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade may participate in the summer program. VGCC offers Medical Terminology on Main Campus
Vance-Granville Community College is currently registering students for Medical Terminology, the first of four courses in the Medical Coding certificate program. Classes will be held in Building 7 on VGCC’s Main Campus on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6 until 9 p.m., May 22 through Sept. 1. The Terminology course is the introduction to the language of medicine. Tanya S. Weary of Oxford has been named the Director of the Small Business Center at Vance-Granville Community College. Weary joined the college after working for the past 12 years with the City of Oxford. During the last three years of her tenure with the City, she served as the Downtown Development Director. Area kids learn about agriculture at VGCC Farm Day
Continuing an annual tradition of teaching young children about food and agriculture, students in the Early Childhood Associate program at Vance-Granville Community College held “Farm Day” in the Civic Center on the college’s Main Campus on April 19. VGCC Computer classes scheduled to start in May at Main Campus

Air Force and NASA veteran gives advice to VGCC Students
A Durham native talked about the importance of education as a guest speaker at Vance-Granville Community College on April 2. Clinton J. “Clint” Green, an official with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), spoke to students in a Study Skills class taught by Marian Dillahunt-Andrews, who were joined by students from several other classes. NC Senate Wants Merit Pay, End to Teacher Tenure
North Carolina’s public school teachers would see employment tenure eliminated, but become eligible for performance bonuses under an education reform package rolled out Monday by Senate Republicans. The public school initiatives were unveiled by Senate leader Phil Berger, who said most of the ideas should draw broad support because they are designed to make students better equipped to graduate from high school and avoid costly remedial classes at universities and community colleges. Three Artists Represent VGCC in State Exhibition
The 2012 North Carolina Community Colleges Art Exhibition is officially open for public viewing in Raleigh, and it includes three works representing Vance-Granville Community College. A painting by Nancy Pittard of Oxford and quilts by Lynn Patiky of Oxford and Peggy Stocks of Manson were selected to take their place among the 203 pieces of art by students and employees from colleges across the state. Members of the Vance-Granville Community College “Chi Beta Chi” chapter of the Phi Beta Lambda business student organization recently attended the 58th Annual PBL State Leadership Conference.
