Vance-Granville Community College has appointed Antoinette C. Dickens of Raleigh to lead the college’s new Paralegal Technology degree program. Volunteers from the Guild Gift Gallery at Maria Parham Medical Center recently presented a gift of $25,000 to the Vance-Granville Community College Endowment Fund that will create a new scholarship. This is the sixth such scholarship established by the Guild Gift Gallery in recent years. Since 2008, the hospital’s Guild has given over $150,000 to the college. On June 26, 2013 members of the Henderson Police Department received a report that a 14 year-old female was sexually assaulted by her uncle. The incident was reported to have occurred in a hotel room at the Sleep Inn, 18 Market Street, Henderson. The suspect allegedly provided the juvenile victim alcohol, and during that period conducted various sexual acts on the juvenile. RALEIGH — Due to wet weather, small grain harvest is running about a week behind schedule. Vance County Schools again this summer is opening its school media centers two days during the week to offer reading resources to local students. The media centers at all 15 local public schools are open each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through August 1. Students and their parents are urged to visit the media centers and take advantage of their available resources for summer reading and book checkouts.
