Henderson-Vance awaits arrival of world champs
Henderson and Vance County are currently awaiting the arrival of their 16 & under All-Star softball team at the Aycock Recreation Center. The team won the Babe Ruth World Series in its category earlier today. At time of publication, a crowd was gathering to greet the champions. Their expected time of arrival is 5:45 p.m. today.
City amends fat, oil, and grease ordinance
The Henderson City Council voted unanimously during its Monday evening regular meeting to amend its fat, oil, and grease (commonly known as a FOG ordinance).

City to proceed with no-bid replacement of UV system
Assistant City Manager Frank Frazier told the Henderson City Council on Monday evening that the city is looking to expedite the replacement of the failing UV water disinfection system by proceeding the with acquisition and installation of new equipment without first obtaining bids.
County public safety committee meets Aug. 18
The Vance County Board of Commissioners’ Public Safety Committee will meet on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the office of County Manager Jerry Ayscue. Mike Waters of the Vance County Bar Association will be present for the meeting. No specific agenda items were provided. Ayscue’s office is located in the County Administration Building, 122 Young Street in Henderson, North Carolina.
Bullock presses for police civilian review board

Congress votes for state fiscal aid measure
The House of Representatives voted yesterday on a state fiscal aid measure that would help avoid teacher layoffs and ensure North Carolina will have the funding to cover those on Medicaid roles.
