The 29th annual Vance-Granville Community College Endowment Fund Golf Tournament will be held at the Henderson Country Club on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Last year’s tournament raised a record-high $33,250 from entry fees and from sponsors, adding to the more than $400,000 that has been raised by VGCC tournaments since 1985. Armed Robbery Case: On Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 2:03 A.M., members of the Henderson Police Department responded to the Waffle House, 942 W. Andrews Avenue in response to a report of an armed robbery. Officers found that two suspects armed with firearms entered the store and demanded currency from the cash drawer. Bobby Van Brunt of Henderson recently retired after more than six years as an administrator at Vance-Granville Community College and a total of 19 years of service in higher education. His VGCC colleagues held a retirement reception in his honor on March 21 at the college’s Main Campus. Bodie Island Lighthouse to open to public

The Bodie Island Lighthouse will open to the public on April 19 for the first time following a three-year, $5 million restoration. The opening has drawn national attention from lighthouse enthusiasts, said Bruce Roberts, board member and co-founder of the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society. For only the second time in its history, the North Carolina Zoo closed its gates temporarily Monday afternoon when parking lots reached overflow capacity and visitor facilities began to reach capacity. By mid-afternoon, as visitors began to leave the park, other guests were allowed to enter.
