Edward Hawkins Arrested in Hotel Murder
Edward Hawkins, 26, of 1664 Tripp Street, Henderson has been charged with two counts of first degree murder in relation to the shooting at Scottish Inn that occurred February 16, 2013. He was arrested this afternoon and has been placed in the Vance County Jail under no bond.

On Sunday, February 24, 2013, at 7:38 P.M. officers of the Henderson Police Department responded to the parking lot of Food Lion, 1650 N. Garnett Street, Henderson in response to a female reporting being robbed. Vance-Granville Community College is preparing to hold its first-ever Biotech Workshop for local high school students. On Thursday, February 21, 2013, officers of the Henderson Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Davis Street and Nicholas Street in Henderson in response to gunfire. When officers arrived, they found Ja’Quon Seward, 17, 710 Southerland Street, Henderson suffering from a gunshot wound. Seward was transported to Maria Parham Medical Center. Board keeps 2013 N.C. boll weevil assessment at 70 cents per acre
RALEIGH — The board of the Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation of North Carolina voted to keep the boll weevil assessment rate at 70 cents per acre of cotton for 2013. That amount is the same as it was for 2012. The fee supports the foundation’s efforts to monitor cotton acreage for any re-introduction of the boll weevil, which was eradicated in the state in 1986, and to respond promptly with eradication treatments if necessary. “Eradicating this pest was the first …
